Words To Act On – The Events!

Join Bookshop Santa Cruz and Ecology Action at our upcoming events!

As part of our partnership with Bookshop Santa Cruz for the Words to Act On series, we’re co-sponsoring four events that you’re all invited to attend. If you haven’t already checked out the list of recommended books for both adults and children, do it now. Read up and join us:

 

Saturday, April 22nd
March for Science & Earth Day Celebration

March for Science Santa Cruz will assemble at Santa Cruz City Hall at 10:00am and will wind through downtown Santa Cruz to San Lorenzo Park, ending at the community’s Earth Day Santa Cruz celebration (11:00am to 4:00pm). Bookshop Santa Cruz will be onsite with information about our partnership and books available for purchase from our curated environment-focused booklist. Bookshop will donate a portion of the sales of these books (both in-store and at the Earth Day Santa Cruz event) to Ecology Action

 

Friday Evening, May 12th, from 7:00-9:00
Action Day “It’s Easy Being Green” Bike Party Ride

Jump on your bikes for the It’s Easy Being Green Bike Party Ride organized by Bike Santa Cruz County and Santa Cruz Bike Party at the culmination of Bike Week. The Santa Cruz Bike Party is a mobile party for riders of all ages, experience levels, and types to meet, ride, and play together in the streets. Riders are encouraged to wear costumes or decorate their bike. Join Bookshop Santa Cruz before the ride to take part in a postcard writing campaign for climate change hosted by Santa Cruz Indivisible. Stay tuned for details.

Paul Hawken Book Talk & Signing

Bookshop Santa Cruz & Ecology Action present: An Evening with Paul Hawken at the bookshop downtown. Bestselling author Paul Hawken (Blessed Unrest, The Ecology of Commerce) will discuss his important new book, Drawdown: The Most Comprehensive Plan Ever Proposed to Reverse Global Warming. The event starts at 7 pm, but as Bookshop staff expect very full attendance they recommend you arrive as early as 6:30.

Environmental Community Read:
Coming of Age at the End of Nature

One of the goals of our Words to Act On partnership is to facilitate a dialogue about important issues through books. Bookshop Santa Cruz and Ecology Action have selected Coming of Age at the End of Nature, edited by Julie Dunlap, as a community-wide read. We encourage you to pick up your copy today and plan to join us at Bookshop for a moderated book discussion on Tuesday, May 31st at 7:00pm (free).
