Environmental policy isn’t something that simply happens on its own. It’s the outcome of a process in which federal, state and local government legislative bodies and executive agencies identify a priority issue and take the initiative to address it. Policies that promote sustainable alternatives can positively impact climate change, demand reduction and economic development in a direct and meaningful way. California has historically been a leader in adopting progressive energy and environmental policies that have been successful in improving the state’s air quality, reducing waste and lowering energy costs for its residents.
We’ve been instrumental in helping shape policy at the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and California Energy Commission (CEC), which regulate investor-owned and municipal utilities, respectively. Our Policy and Analytics team works closely with both Commissions to provide input on policy and program proposals. Our in-depth knowledge of the regulatory environment in which we operate, our trusted relationships with regulatory agencies and the credence these agencies give to our positions sets Ecology Action apart from many other organizations in our field. We focus on those issues where we can make a difference, and dedicate the time and energy necessary to advocate for our positions because we believe it’s the right thing to do.
