OKAY, JUST THE FAQS

Why is Ecology Action doing BIKE MONTH?

One of the top sources of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in the United States is from the burning of fossil fuels for transportation—here in Santa Cruz County it is almost 60% of overall emissions. Switching to a bike for your commute or trip to the store not only reduces air, water and noise pollution in our towns and cities but can make our community healthier and happier. Bike Month is our way of encouraging our local community to ditch their cars for bikes during July and beyond.

What is BIKE MONTH?

National Bike Month is a celebration of bicycling usually held every May. In response to the unfolding COVID-19, Ecology Action is hosting this July. It is a chance to showcase the many benefits of bicycling and to encourage more folks to giving bicycling for every day trips a try. The main way to participate this year is by joining the BIKE MONTH CHALLENGE through Love To Ride and setting riding goals for yourself, club, and/or workplace. You can share riding adventures and stories from the community all month long. Check it all out at ecoact.org/bikemonth

What is the BIKE MONTH CHALLENGE?

Our goal is to engage with as many Santa Cruz County residents to ditch their cars and pedal on two wheels during the entire month of JulyThis year, get out with your family, a commute if you aren’t working from home, a trip to the grocery store, or a ride in the neighborhood to clear your head and get fresh air. Let’s just ride. To show some love to our community and local bike shops, every Friday in July we are giving away $100 gift cards to five lucky winners, for five weeks!

The BIKE MONTH CHALLENGE starts on July 1, 2020 through July 31, 2020.

How do I win a $100 gift card to a local bike shop?

Do I have to pay to play?

No purchase is necessary.

What is LOVE TO RIDE?

Love to Ride is a third-party online platform ride tracking and social tool that helps to get more people riding. Local Santa Cruz residents must register at lovetoride.net/santacruz

Are college students eligible?

No, the points that accumulate in the Love To Ride dashboard do not factor into how the winner is awarded. See eligibility and entry process above.

Are there any other prizes?

No, but there will be 25 winners selected over the course of the month. Each winner will be able to choose a local bike shop in Santa Cruz County of their choosing.

We are heartbroken and angered by the treatment of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color in America and around the globe. Ecology Action stands against racism, discrimination, and violence. We are dedicated to creating a safe and equitable organization that supports building a more inclusive and just society. We stand committed to supporting a thriving community and planet, and we know that we can only truly be successful in this goal if we work to achieve both racial and environmental justice. No one should have to live in fear of prejudice and brutality. We are ready to serve, humbled by the enormity of the challenge, and inspired by those who have sacrificed so much before us.
