Their goal is to help people feel more secure about riding by educating cyclists and motorists and to ensure that people on bikes know how to ride safely and legally.

In order to register for a LCI Seminar, you must have an active individual membership to the League of American Bicyclists.

Green Gardener | Qualified Water Efficient Landscaper Training @ Zoom / Watsonville Adult School

The Monterey Bay Green Gardener Program trains and certifies landscape industry workers in Monterey Bay-Friendly Landscaping design and maintenance practices.

In order to become certified, gardeners attend the certification-level series which consists of ten weekday evening class sessions for a total of 20-30 hours of instruction and a Saturday class project. Gardeners must obtain a passing score on a final exam that covers all core subjects and must complete a comprehensive self-evaluation of their landscape practices. Continuing education is not required to maintain certification. However, certified gardeners are encouraged to attend continuing education classes.

The next 10-week Green Gardener Certification-level course will be offered both online and in-person in April 2022 at the Watsonville/Aptos Adult School, 294 Green Valley Road in Watsonville. Participants will have the opportunity to earn the Qualified Water Efficient Landscaper Certification.

McKinnon St Pop Up (SALINAS)

We invite the public to walk or bike through this temporary project, then take the survey!

As part of the Salinas Safe Routes to Schools Plan, the bike lanes on McKinnon Street between Harden Parkway and Harden Middle School will be changed to separated bikeways and temporary curb extensions will be added on Westminster Drive. These changes will be in place for 30 days, with the goal of improving safety and getting feedback from the community.

COMMUNITY BENEFITS:

  • Allows the community to test out the design
  • Provides protected space for students biking to school
  • More walking and biking supports a healthy community and environment

You are invited to walk and bike on McKinnon Street and Westminster Drive during the installation to see what a permanent project could look like and share your feedback.

Climate Action Market at the Seymour Center @ Seymour Marine Discovery Center
Apr 23 @ 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Climate Action Market at the Seymour Center @ Seymour Marine Discovery Center

World-class science + community climate action with a dash of music, food, games, crafts, and more.

Learn about the science happening to understand the impacts of climate change on the oceans and our local coastal climate. Connect with local community organizations working to prepare our community for life in a changing climate.

This is a science-meets-community-action festival open to the public. Imagine a farmer’s market vibe — lots of people buzzing about outdoors with music, food, games, arts & crafts, and booths. The booths will be filled with scientists, civic partners, community organizations, and businesses sharing what they’re doing to understand and/or act to achieve healthy marine, coastal ecosystems and human communities.

Parking & Transportation

Bike Santa Cruz County will provide a Bike Valet service, so we encourage you to ride your bikes! If you plan to drive, there are several medium-sized parking lots on the Coastal Science Campus with free parking. If those parking lots fill up, there is additional street parking along Delaware Ave. You will walk for a few minutes, but the walk takes you through a Natural Reserve, so we think you’ll enjoy the beautiful stroll as you approach the Climate Action Market.

For ADA access, parking attendants will point you to reserved parking or drop-off/pick-up locations.
