Through direct, on-site sources buildings produce 6% of heat-trapping emissions worldwide. On top of that, utility rates in California are among the highest in the nation and a top operating expenditure for commercial business owners. To increase the impact of this important work, Ecology Action has fostered several key initiatives to expand energy efficiency offerings to businesses across the nation.

Taper: Building Efficiency

After 15 years of building efficiency work in California, Ecology Action saw multi-site enterprise business holdings as the greatest opportunity for realizing emission reductions at scale. The need to expand this important work beyond California gave rise to Taper, a B-Corp subsidiary of Ecology Action, specializing in scalable building efficiency for companies with numerous built assets. Taper operates as a consulting partner and general contractor, providing the full spectrum of consulting, sourcing, and construction services to help businesses realize massive greenhouse gas reductions and operational savings through building efficiency.

Sustainable Grocery

The pressure on commercial grocers to improve operational practices, reduce environmental impact, and mitigate climate-related risks has never been higher. With a strong bench of industry experts, Ecology Action is launching a three-part initiative to double the net income for our grocery partners by leveraging cost-effective sustainability investments – while also rapidly reducing greenhouse gas emissions at scale. The first part of the initiative, Ratio Institute is already transforming the grocery industry by offering a new way of doing business: sustainability as THE strategy for a more profitable, sustainable industry
