Ecology Action Partners with Safeway and Truckee Donnor PUD

EnergyConnect, Ecology Action’s large commercial portfolio program, provides innovative full-suite energy-management services to companies nationwide. EnergyConnect staff members work with clients to develop a thorough understanding of their desired payback thresholds and then apply our deep technical, financial, and creative knowledge to finding the right energy-saving opportunities.

EnergyConnect recently facilitated an incentive model focused on energy conservation between Safeway and the Truckee Donner Public Utility District (PUD). The project focused on replacing less-efficient evaporator fans in refrigerated coolers and freezers with electric commutated motor (ECM) fans. Refrigeration devices are among the most energy-intensive equipment in a grocery store, and ECM fans are key to reducing in-store energy usage. The PUD provided a grant that was necessary for the energy conservation project to succeed, and the energy saved after these upgrades was estimated to be more than 276,000 kWh per year.
